Resting in…
God's omnipotence, sovereignty, omniscience, and peaceful omnipresence.
Agreeing & Acting, even for all the right reasons, can be exhausting (Mark 6:31)! And lest it be overlooked for how seemingly obvious it is, we were designed with the need for rest (Exodus 23:12; Mark 2:27). But however placid a mountain lake may seem or peaceful a secluded, sunny beach may appear or enticing a cozy, warm bed may be for those blessed to find them, both physical and emotional rest simply escape far too many.
There is a deeper rest – spiritual rest (Matthew 11:28) – that is the foundation for all true rest, both temporal and eternal. It is rooted in these key truths:
When we are weak, God is all-powerful (Ezekiel 34:16; Jeremiah 10:12).
When we lose our autonomy, God remains sovereign over all (Deuteronomy 3:24; Jude 24-25).
When we can’t find the answers, God is all-knowing (Psalm 139:1-6; Colossians 2:2-3).
When we just can’t be everywhere at once, God is ever-present (Exodus 33:14; Psalm 139:7-12; Matthew 18:20).
When we receive these truths as believers and followers of Jesus, born again into the family of God, there is perfect rest (Hebrews 4:3, 10-11) made available to us.
